Associate - Portfolio Group (Special Situations)
About the Role: We are partnering with a prestigious global investment firm to find a dynamic Associate for their Portfolio Group within the Special Situations division. This team is pivotal in managing funds and assets, driving strategy, and analyzing fund construction, risk, and opportunities for their Special Situations funds, which boast $20B in assets under management (AUM).
The Portfolio Group works hand-in-hand with Special Situations leadership and deal teams, offering comprehensive support on analytical, strategic, and operational matters. Their expertise enhances fund optimization through leverage, cash management, and portfolio construction, while also crafting strategies to boost profitability and expand the Special Situations business. This role is based in Boston.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain projection models for all Global Special Situations (GSS) funds.
- Oversee the cash position of GSS funds; manage the funding pipeline and coordinate capital calls/distributions.
- Support fund financing initiatives, including structuring, modeling, and fund-level impact analyses.
- Provide analytical assistance in fundraising and investor reporting for the GSS business.
- Manage US Special Situations portfolio reporting, tracking value creation initiatives, risk factors, and KPIs.
- Maintain a comprehensive system for tracking fund information across the Special Situations business, including asset allocations, capital activity, investor composition, returns history, fund financings, risk factors, and value creation initiatives.
- Assist in evaluating and analyzing new fund investment products, business lines, and strategies.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional academic credentials (BS/BA from a top-tier institution) with a proven track record of successful work experience; a concentration in Finance and/or CFA designation is advantageous.
- 1-4 years of experience in corporate/strategic finance, financial operations, or data analytics; prior asset management experience and/or knowledge of various investment products and asset classes (e.g., private equity, credit) is beneficial.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build financial models and analyze large datasets efficiently; experience with VBA and PowerBI is a plus.
- Proficient in PowerPoint, capable of effectively communicating insights from analyses to a diverse audience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, adept at managing relationships across different levels of seniority within the organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- A positive, proactive attitude with strong critical thinking skills to create analyses that address complex business questions.
